Making Fresh Pet Food Is Our Business,
Helping Animals Thrive Is Our Passion.
Why We Come to Work (Sometimes Even On Weekends)...
We are here for every pet parent that wants to do better, who question the outdated idea that highly processed food is healthy for our pets, who is searching for answers, who wants to see their pet live their best life and age gracefully.
Like you, we are a group of pet parents that got frustrated at the lack of transparency in the pet industry. We felt that pet food companies focus too much on fancy packaging and marketing and not enough on what was inside the bag. We grew concerned that the Canadian pet industry had no standards or regulations for food safety or quality of pet products.
We can’t promise that we have all the answers, but we can promise that we are making the best quality food based on expertise, knowledge and science we have today. And we are focused on building a community of experts and pet parents that are serious about creating a healthier and more sustainable food system for our pets.

Sincerely,
The Family At Red Dog Blue Kat
Let's Be Honest About Food...
We believe that a “diet” is more than just a collection of nutrients found on a nutritional panel. According, to the Brazilian Food Guide and the recently revised Canada Food Guide, a healthy “diet” is a wholistic term that refers to the quality of ingredients, how these ingredients are combined, prepared, processed and even how they are eaten. These principals are based on years of research into human health and nutrition and the same principals should apply to feeding all animals, including our pets.

For decades, the industry that feeds our furry family members has been defined by highly processed foods made from ingredients repurposed from waste of the human industry. Feeding pets was cheap and easy. Diets for pets were based on the principal of feeding the same food every day, without variety and measured based on a nutritional standard (AAFCO) that cannot be achieved with fresh whole foods. As our understanding about human nutrition and health evolves, we need to challenge the outdated ideas and assumptions and rewrite the book on how we feed our pets! We need new assumptions and new standards.

This is why we are focused on raising the bar for pet food standards and are working with experts to provide you with up to date nutritional information. Fresh food is neither cheap nor convenient … but it is necessary, and our goal is to support every pet parent that wants to do better for their pets, no matter where you are in your journey.
“Cheap food is an illusion. There is no such thing as cheap food. The real cost of the food is paid somewhere. And if it isn't paid at the cash register, it's charged to the environment or to the public purse in the form of subsidies.”
— Michael Polland
What You See Is What You Get
Our RDBK products are our passion put into action. We believe that when it comes to food, the quality of ingredients, where they come from, and how they're prepared has a direct and powerful impact on health and wellness. When it comes to processing, less is more: the less processing that food is exposed to, the more nutrients it retains. We believe that all ingredients should be functional and in their natural form.
All Meals Are:

We carefully and specifically select suppliers that share our values, commitment to excellence, and dedication to animal welfare. We select whole food ingredients based on current research, nutritional content, species appropriateness, sustainability and other health considerations.
The Future
We're committed to creating positive change in the pet food industry and the way we look at nutrition. We envision a world where all food is grown naturally, sustainably and is processed in a manner that preserves its natural nutrients. We envision a world were food safety is based on a natural balance of good and bad bacteria (not a sterile, dead food) and medicine is based on prevention, not disease and suppression.
We're making a substantial investment in education and research about food processing, pet food safety, food quality and other aspects of the food industry that impact the value of the foods we feed our pets.

We pride ourselves on continual improvement in our processes and products, our professional and personal growth, and in creating respectful partnerships with suppliers, vendors, and retailers.
Our Roots
Red Dog Blue Kat started in 2004 when six friends banded together to create recipes that supported the belief that their pets deserved better. This meant using real food, with whole ingredients, handcrafted with the same love and care they put into meals for their own families. They laid the groundwork for who we are today!

Since the very beginning, food safety, manufacturing quality and sustainability have been at the core of our company’s vision. We have gone the extra mile to ensure that our products are manufactured under the highest food safety standards by achieving HAACP certification. This certification is top-of-the-line in the human food industry, and our pets deserve nothing less.

Furthermore, we believe that to truly stand by our commitment to animal wellness, we must consider that “animal wellness” is not only referring to pets; but to all animals and the environments that they live in. For that reason, we only use humanely raised meats, wild-caught fish and certified organic vegetables in our recipes.

At Red Dog Blue Kat we continue to be relentless in our pursuit to inform, support, and enable pet guardians to make informed decisions to improve their pet's health!
